Join Bury and Elton ASC
Joining any new club can be
pretty daunting for anyone, let alone a child! This section contains lots of
information about joining Bury and Elton Swimming Club and describes a little
about our friendly, welcoming approach to new members. Topics covered include
how to come and try, what equipment you might need, who to contact, which
session would I start in, do I have to be a good swimmer, etc.

Bury and Elton
Swimming Club welcomes new members of all ages, abilities and backgrounds
- from learner swimmers to team swimmers. It offers a comprehensive
training programme which given personal commitment and effort, will enable
each member to reach his or her own maximum potential in a fun and safe
environment.
Whilst all of our
training sessions are structured and disciplined, there is also an
opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and get some really
great low impact exercise.

DO I HAVE TO BE A
GOOD SWIMMER?
The short answer to this
question is NO. Ability, in general, does not matter because Bury
and Elton has such a
wide range of programmes and facilities to accommodate any type of swimmer. In
most cases we will have training schedule to match your needs, from teaching a young
child to learn to swim, right through to providing expert coaching to fully
fledged swimmers of all abilities.
GETTING
STARTED
Getting swimming with Bury
and Elton is simple, and we always welcome new members. We never think that
questions are daft or silly, because we probably asked them ourselves when
we joined... and we appreciate that you will have lots of questions too. We also
know that you will probably want to come and have a look at what we do and how
we do it, and so welcome people along to have a look (and try of course).
Step 1:
Get in Touch With Us
Come
to one of our training sessions and see the coach / teacher
Step 2:
Coming Along and Try
Your
swimmer will be assessed by one of our coaches and given an allotted session
for them to attend. The assessment will take place on Club Night which is
on a Wednesday and you must arrive by 7.00pm for assessment at 7.15pm. After the
assessment you can then join our club at the desk and start to swim the next
week or if your session is full placed on our waiting list. Please make yourself
known at the desk so they can arrange your swimmers assessment. Please be aware
that rarely our assessment team are not available so you may have to return
for your swimmer to be assessed.
Step 3:
Selecting the swimmers ability
Once you have had a look at us and we have had a look at you,
you will be placed in session which matches your ability. .
HOW
MUCH DOES IT COST?
Once you've decided to join, there are 2
parts to the fees we ask you to pay:
Annual Club Membership + Monthly Fees or
pay at the session each time
All competitive swimmers must also pay an annual registration fee to the Amateur
Swimming Association (ASA) to enable swimming in league gala’s, open meets
etc. This fee also covers the costs of Insurance Premiums payable.
WHAT
EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
|
During the trial
period you will only need a swimming costume, swimming hat, goggles and a
drink in a plastic drinks bottle – NON FIZZY – preferably squash.
If you decide to join us, a float,
pull buoy, flippers and a drink will be essential. If you already have
some items, then we won't ask you to buy them again, but anything you
don't have can be purchased from our swim shop. All of the items stocked
in our swim shop have been carefully selected as suitable for club use

IS
IT ALL SWIMMING?
|
In
the main yes! - The core function of the club is to provide a wide range
of swimming activities and facilities to develop all our young swimmers
from “Tidlers” to “Teens”. However, we do believe in developing
fully all leisure aspects of club life and therefore have a active and
healthy social side to the club. Some are swim orientated like the club
Galas, other activities have included, family Christmas discos.
