Bury and Elton ASC  Parent and Swimmer Agreement

Code of Conduct: Parents/Guardians and Swimmers

Introduction

The aim of this Code of Conduct is to maintain our club’s reputation as a friendly and disciplined organisation, and, above all, to ensure the safety and well being of our swimmers.

To successfully ensure this aim is met, it is important to maintain standards of:

  • individual behaviour and conduct
  • respect for others
  • attendance at training sessions, galas and competitions.

All parents/guardians and swimmers must sign up to this Code of Conduct, and are expected to conform to it at all times.

Individual behaviour and conduct

Parents/guardians, swimmers and coaches (as appropriate) must:

·         act in a safe and considerate manner at all times

·         not use abusive language or aggressive behaviour

·         act in an open and honest manner

·         observe lane discipline, have all equipment ready, and move carefully around the poolside

·         be prepared to do their best at all training sessions, galas and competitions.

In addition:

  • parents/guardians must not go on poolside during training sessions, unless asked by the coach to do so
  • alcohol is strictly prohibited to all swimmers underage by UK law
  • smoking is prohibited by all swimmers prior to, during or after training sessions, galas or competitions
  • the use of drugs or other substances other than for medical reasons is prohibited.

Respect for others

  • Respect all other parents/guardians, swimmers and coaches.
  • Parents/guardians must not criticise coaching staff in front of swimmers, as it is vital that swimmers have faith and trust in the coaches.
  • Respect the property of other swimmers and the Leisure Centre at all times.
  • Obey instructions from coaches, other club officials, the team manager or Leisure Centre staff, promptly.
  • Remain with the team at all times.
  • Support and encourage your team.
  • Accept defeat with grace and show good sportsmanship.
  • Stay on poolside until the final result has been given, and leave as a team together.

Attendance

  • Swimmers should attend all training sessions as identified by the coach.
  • Parents/guardians to ensure that coaches are made aware of any illness, injuries or medication.
  • Parents/guardians to ensure that coaches are informed if swimmers are unable to attend training or swim in a competition.
  • Parents/guardians to ensure that swimmers arrive in good time for training, galas or competitions with the right kit, food and drink.
  • Swimmers should be ready on poolside 15 (fifteen) minutes before the appropriate start time of each training session.
  • Swimmers should be available to swim in team events as selected by the coach.
  • During team events, swimmers should swim those races selected by the coach without question unless prevented by injury.
  • Team clothing should be worn as directed by the coach or team manager.

Breaches of the Code of Conduct

All breaches of the Code of Conduct will initially be dealt with by the Head Coach.  The Head Coach will inform the relevant parties (parents/guardians and swimmers) at the earliest opportunity, and may instigate an investigation into the matter.  In the event that a parent/guardian or swimmer fails to comply with the Code, a meeting will take place to discuss the matter.  Should there be a failure to comply with the Head Coach/club committee decision, the Head Coach has the right to suspend and/or dismiss the parent/guardian or swimmer from the club.
